1. Look at Where You Are
The first step you should take when preparing content for the coming year or months is to assess where you currently are on social media. This includes your successes and where you can improve.
One thing you can do in this stage is competitive research. This will help you to see how others in your niche are doing compared to you. You can view analytics to see what and what hasn’t been performing the best.
This can be an uncomfortable process! However, knowledge is power and this can help you tweak your content and strategy moving forward!
2. Create Goals
What do you want to accomplish in the next coming year or months? Do you want more traffic to your website, more followers, higher engagement?
Create a list of what it is that you want to achieve in that time frame to help you gain clarity on what you need to do to get there. Try to be as specific as you can instead of “I want more followers”. By getting more specific, you are giving yourself more direction on what needs to actually be done to get there.
3. Review Past Content
Reviewing your past posts from the previous year or months can provide you with massive insight into what is working and what may be falling flat. Look through your analytics on your website and on social media platforms you use and look to see what content performed the best and what wasn’t popular.
If you notice that certain topics in your niche perform better than others hone in on that, same for types of content! If you notice that people respond better to videos than to still images, you can make the choice to add more videos to your content strategy.

4. Create a Schedule That Works For YOU
Your social media plan is a roadmap! It will provide you with a step-by-step process towards your goals. What is most important is creating a content calendar and your strategy! These will help ensure that you are creating the right content for launches, lead magnets, brand awareness, and all stages of the buyer’s journey.

5. Be Mindful of Trends
Now, this tip may seem odd, but I want to keep it real with you… Keeping up with trends on social media is part of the beast. For example, if you are only posting images to your feed, you could and likely are missing out on other opportunities to grow and connect to your audience. This is probably not a surprise, but video content is continuing to rise in popularity, and using it in your content strategy is a must! Whether it is creating Tik Toks or Instagram Reels, these are helping businesses get seen and grow fast.
